Naughty Or Nice Holiday Party - Day 6

NOTE: Our post disappeared today. We don't know why but here it is. Thanks for coming back.

Keep coming back because we have one more day left. Don't forget to go to the following posts to enter: Day 1Day 2Day 3Day 4 and Day 5. Good luck!

Here are the general guidelines for this party. Each day we will feature the answers of the questions that we posed to the designers. You will find out about their holiday habits and each day you will have the opportunity to share your thoughts. You will be eligible to win a fabulous bundle of fabric. All you have to do is answer the question on the blog [and/or on Facebook] for a chance to win the bundle of fabric of the day. No substitutions. You can enter on the blog and/or Facebook for two chances to win per day. You have until midnight December 9th to enter and all winners must claim their prizes until midnight December 13th or the prize is forfeited and we will announce a new winner.

Thank you for visiting our website, blog and Facebook page. It has been a great year for the Henry Glass designers. They've been busy working on a big project with the folks at Martingale & Co. The book will be released next fall and we know that you are going to love it. Stay tuned to our blog and Facebook or sign up for our newsletter to receive news about some exciting announcements in the new year.

For this blog party we asked the designers the following questions:

1. What was your favorite gift? Worst?
2. Early or late shopper? Earliest or latest that you've shopped?
3. Favorite holiday drink? Alcohol or none? Recipe?
4. Are you likely one to return a present or to suck it up and keep it?
5. As a child were you likely to make the naughty or nice list?

Shelly Comiskey of Simply Shelly Designs is the talented designer behind many wonderful fabric lines for Henry Glass. These lines include You Whoo!, Bear Hugs and Honey Bee Mine. Her most recent line is very timely for this party. "Believe" is a beautifully illustrated holiday line that will be on store shelves by next May. You can read all about her life as an illustrator on her blog. She's having a giveaway of her gift bags right now.

1.  Hmmm, it will be hard to pick a favorite, because I have received many favorites, but if I go way way back to when I was about 4 years old, there was one that I treasured!  Santa had brought me Marble the toy pony that I could sit on.  To me he was real.  I can remember brushing him and even feeding him carrots.   As for picking out my worst gift, that would have to be a little radio I received in grammar school for a grab bag and it was broken.

2.  Oh I definitely fall into the late shopper category.  For many years I had made Christmas clay ornaments and it was quite the busy season for me, so shopping was always quite a squeeze to get done.  The latest I have shopped has definitely been Christmas Eve.  I am the WORST at early shopping because when shopping early, I get so excited when I have a fun gift for someone, I would for sure end up giving it to them way before Christmas LOL -  I've been known for that many times over.

3.  Well this is a new drink that I really enjoy.  It is a cranberry mimosa!  And it is so festive looking too!  It really is not much of a recipe but its made with cranberry juice, champagne, and frozen cranberries.  Adjust to your taste and enjoy!!

4.  Definitely suck it up and keep it.

5.  Honestly, I was on that nice list - Santa was watching you know!!

Note from Shelly:  "I am so thankful to be included in such wonderful company and having the privilege to design and do what I truly love! I want to wish Happy Holidays, Seasons Greetings, Happy Hanukkah, and Very Merry Christmas to all!"

Heather Mulder Peterson of Anka's Treasures has been designing beautiful fabric filled with floral prints for many years. With the arrival of her adorable son Carter she has branched out into the whimsical world of fabric designs influenced by her little guy. She has succeeded with her first line, Here Fishy Fishy. Her blog is full of wonderful stories and photography about life as a designer and mom.

1.  My favorite gift was probably the stereo system I got when I was a senior in high school.  It was a combination Christmas/birthday/graduation gift, so it was a large gift and quite exciting for me.  It had a 5 disk cd system and huge speakers.  It was back when a 100 watt speaker was 3 feet tall.  I had to have the volume quite loud to hear it over my quilting and sewing machines, so I am sure my parents were forever sorry that they got that for me.  I loved it and got many, many hours of use out of it.  I spent many hours quilting to the music and let's just say that I don't think my hearing is quite what it should be.  My least favorite gift - that I can remember - was a touristy Florida t-shirt with holes in it.

2.  I have done both.  I have probably never done any shopping before Thanksgiving and I can remember doing some last minute shopping.  It usually depends on when I have time to do it.

3.  My favorite holiday drink is probably my MIL's recipe for Christmas Tea.  There is no alcohol involved, but it is still very yummy.

Start by brewing 6 tea bags in 1 quart of boiling water. Set aside.

Simmer Together:

3/4 cup brown sugar

4 orange slices with whole cloves

4 cinnamon sticks

1/2 tsp nutmeg

3 cups cranapple juice

Combine tea and spiced juice.  Serve warm.

4.  I really don't remember returning many gifts.

5.  I would say the nice list.  I don't really have any infamous stories of me being naughty as a child, at the holidays or otherwise.  I do remember getting a bar of soap rubbed on my tongue when I was 5 because I stuck out my tongue at my Mom, but that is about it.  I guess being well behaved is more of a challenge for me now as an adult, then when I was a child!

Linda Lum DeBono has been working with us behind the scenes recently and she hopes to get back to designing fabric in the near future. She has been reworking her website and you can keep up with her news on her blog. She loves designing for the holidays. Little things like place mats and pillows are her favorites. Linda is giving away a copy of her book, "Sew Merry and Bright" on her blog. She's posting some fun free downloads in the next week too.

1.  The best:  I had a large plastic doll that my great uncle and aunt sent to me. It resembled Ginger from Gilligan's Island. She was about 2 ft. high and she had bright red hair.

The worst: I wouldn't say that it was a bad gift. The reason I list it is because I didn't like it at the time. My sister and I received the same beautiful English wool sweater but she got the "girly" version [soft lavender color] and I got the "mature" version [same design but in yellow and blue].  I was upset because I was a tomboy but I wanted the girly version. Funny thing, I kept the sweater and did wear it when I was much older.

2. For the most part I am a very early shopper unless it is something that I know that I can get at an even better deal on a big sale weekend. I like to shop through the year and be finished by November so that I can shop at a leisurely level if I need to.

3.  I love frozen hot chocolate and no, it does not taste the same as chocolate milk. Like Shelly, I love mimosas too but my flavor of choice is mango.

4. I have not returned any gifts though there have been a few gifts that have made me think about taking that action.

5. I tried to be nice but one year my sister and I did try to take a sip of Johnny Walker. Oops. We told on ourselves though because we were thoroughly disgusted by the experience.

Today's featured fabric bundle is Shelly's very own Honey Bee Mine. Tell us about your fondest holiday memory.

Good luck!

How nice this is to see the 'human' side of your designers. This bear fabric brings me to mind my most memorable Holiday. I was very young so only remember not knowing who this strange person in a wheel chair was and why he was staying with us on Christmas. It was my Dad, injuried in war and returning home - luckily I got to know, love and appreciate this 'stranger'.

I can't think of one that stands out among the rest. Each Christmas is lovely in its own way.

I was wondering what happened to this day. My fondest Christmas memory is when my parents surprised us by showing up for Christmas. They had said they would not be able to make the drive to our state where we lived. They drove up the day before Christmas just as we were packing our car to go to their house and surprise them

My fondest memory is receiving new flannel pj's from my grandparents every Christmas. We always got to open only that gift on Christmas Eve and then we got to go to bed in soft, cozy new pj's.

My best Christmas memory is that moment when my brother and I came down the stairs and saw all the gifts that Santa had brought, piled under the tree.

I always love Christmas Eve. We go to church and it seems every year when we come out it has started to snow. I love how the light makes it look like crystals floating in the air. WE go home and always have a layout of yummy snacks. Afterwards we open our gifts.

What gorgeous fabric! Thanks Ladies, I enjoyed reading your answers. The year I was 14, we had very little money, a tiny table top tree...but a lot of fun opening small things from the stockings on Moms bed, while she drank her coffee.

The year my entire family; parents and six kids received red flannel pj's with red polka dot tops made by my Grandmother. We were a sight to behold and the furnace filter was full of red lint for quite some time thereafter! Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.

My fondest holiday memory is of my Pappap dressing up as Santa every Christmas Eve. My grandparents wanted us to have those wonderful memories to hold onto as long as possible so when I started to believe that Santa wasn't real one year (after noticing that whenever Santa showed up, Pappap was gone), my Grandma was the one to dress up. Suddenly, Santa was there and so was my Pappap! That got me believing for a couple more years! Lol! It's a story that gets told every Christmas. I miss them so much this time of year!
Thanks for the opportunity to share (and to win). :)

One of my fondest holiday memories was staying up real late and sneaking to unwrap my gifts and then 're-wrapping them before my parents got up! It was almost more exciting than getting the gifts!

I have special memories of my Mom with my son on his first Christmas -- she was over the moon having her first grandchild and wanted to hold him all day! She died unexpectedly when my son was just 2, and I often think of how much joy he brought to her in those 2 short years.

My fondest holiday memory... Hmm... That's a tough one. When I was a child, my dad was on strike and we had no hope of getting any Christmas presents. We didn't get much any other Christmas anyway, but this year someone left a basket of presents on our front porch. I asked my mom who brought it, and she said, "Santa!" There was a "money tree" in the basket for my dad and mom and my sister and I got Barbie dolls. That was the only Barbie doll I ever got, and I treasured it.

Being from a large family it was always hard to all the kids and grandkids together fir Christmas Eve. One year it happened! We all took pictures of all the brothers, sisters, family, etc. that was the last Christmas we were all here. I lost a 17 year old brother that spring. Very fond memories of that last Christmas.

I remember the year my parents packed me and my 3 siblings into the car at 4:00 in the morning and we went to my grandparents's house 4 hours away on Christmas morning. We were allowed to open our presents before we left, so we were able to take our new toys with us. Thanks for the interviews with the designers and the giveaway.

My fondest memories are of Christmas Eves spent at my grandmother's house. It was a no meat meal with many customs. What made it special was all my aunts and uncles and cousins were there and we all sat at a very long table that went the length of two rooms. I surely miss those wonderful days when we all gathered as a family to celebrate the holidays.

When I was a freshman in college, my Mom said I could choose what she would make for Christmas dinner since I hadn't been home since September. I chose Chinese & everyone loved what she fixed, so my Mom made the same meal each Christmas for years after that. Thanks.

I would have to say one of my favorite Christmas' had to be when our triplets came home from the hospital right before Christmas (they were born Oct. 29th). Thanks for this fun Naughty or Nice post.

Rina Mason said...

One of my fondest Christmas memories took place in the hospital. I had been in the hospital for almost six months, it was Christmas time and I was depressed. Back in the 70's everything was kept very sterile which meant a plain boring room that was not conductive to getting better. A dear friend of mine somehow convinced the doctors and hospital to allow him to bring a 3 ft live tree into my room complete with decorations. That was one of the best Christmas gifts I ever received.

I always love Christmas Eve Midnight church service and since we lived in Chicago it could be very cold. One year it was 25 below zero. My husband stayed in the car with the engine running while the kids and I went inside just in case. That was 1983 and it was a very cold year.

When we were little, my brother would come into my room on Christmas Eve when he couldn't stand the anticipation of waiting for Santa. We would read or talk or listen until we fell asleep. I think those times were as much fun as Christmas mornings were.
