Hens & Chicks Eye Candy

One of the beautiful shops that Lisa got to visit was Hen and Chicks Studio in Conrad, Iowa. It is owned by Heidi Kaisand. Many of you may know her as the woman who created Better Homes & Gardens American Patchwork & Quilting magazine and other publications! She has a long and extensive career and now she owns this fabulous quilt shop.

What a lovely selection and the samples are so pretty too!

She hosts retreats too and look at the adorable pillows and beds! What a great idea!

They offer long-arm services too!

Thank you for hosting Lisa! You have a darling shop!

The Whole Country Caboodle And Then Some!

We still have some more Quilt Market photos to show you. We have a long list of talented designers, don't we!

Leanne Anderson of The Whole Country Caboodle had a lovely booth. That ruffle bag on the right is very cute! Here's Leanne with her wonderful helpers!

Right after Quilt Market, one of our Design Directors, Lisa, had a great adventure with Leanne and she is going to share it with us in the next few posts on the blog.

Lisa's Iowa Adventure ...

Many, many thanks to Leanne Anderson and the entire Anderson Family for their truly wonderful hospitality.  It was my good fortune to have the opportunity to spend a few days after the Kansas City Quilt Market with the Andersons in Iowa ... my husband, Randy in tow. Our trip started out Sunday evening in Suburban packed to the ceiling with Leanne's market booth. The 5 hour road trip back to their place flew by as we never ran out of stories to share. We arrived late in the night or should I say early i the morning.

We sleepy travelers, settled in for the night to recharge our batteries for our adventures the next day. Those of you who are familiar with Leanne's fabric lines, may get a kick out of the fact that we did stay in a Cabin by the Lake! The Andersons have a cute as a button cozy guest cabin on the edge of their property overlooking beautiful Cedar Lake. We woke up to the sound of honking geese and a fantastic sunrise each morning. The weather was perfect!

[Leanne, Lisa and Kaytlyn]

We packed as much fun and adventure as we could in each day. We visited several quilt shops in the area, spoke with the individual shop owners for a bet and searched the shops for treasures and inspiration. Each shop had so much to offer. A special thanks to Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene, owners of Country Threads Pattern Comapny & Quilt Shop, Denise, owner of Quilter's Window and Heidi Kaisand, owner of Hen & Chicks Studio for taking the time to chat a little with us and for allowing us to explore their shops. What fun! Everyone was gearing up for the All Iowa Shop Hop! So there was a flurry of activity everywhere.

We saved enough time to visit and get a glimpse of Leanne's world. She enjoys a lovely studio space with large sliding glass door with a gorgeous view of the lake below. Here she creates her clever characteristics and runs her kit and pattern business. Leanne surrounds herself with her favorite fabrics, many of her own, and it is wall to wall bolts of fabulous fabric! Leanne and her daughter, Kaytlyn share in the day-to-day operations of The Whole Country Caboodle. Kaytlyn Webb has branched out with her own patterns in Kansas City under the brand "Caboodle" Kay-T-Dids! She's off to a great start ... market was profitable for Caboodle Kay-T-Dids as well! Leanne shares another business with both her daughters, Kaytlyn and Shelby. It is a retail shop called Patchwork & Primitives. This clever occasion shop opens twice a month on the first and third Thursday of each month. Make time for a visit and you won't be sorry! There are many treasures to be found inside.

We enjoyed a wonderful meal alfresco and shared some great stories by the fireside at the lake. Leanne, her husband Ed, Kaytlyn, Toby [the Anderson's 2-year old grandson] and Shelby shared a meal and wonderful lively visit with us. Toby stole the show and our hearts. Thanks to Shelby for sharing him with us. We feel that we made some great friends on Iowa and hope to get back to see them again soon! Thanks, Anderson family! It's your turn to come visit us in NYC!

Wow, what a great trip that Lisa had. Come back to get a look at the shops that she visited!

Some Rooftop Fun

Some of our designers are licensed textile and surface designers who work beyond the walls of the quilting industry. Recently, a couple of the designers visited New York City and the Henry Glass offices while they were exhibiting at Surtex.

After some work, the ladies went over to the Strand Hotel for some lunch. What a great rooftop restaurant! From left to right above, Karen Junquet [HG], designer Beth Logan, designer Delphine Cubitt, Diane Potter and Harriet Clemons [HG].

We got a peek at Delphine's adorable booth at Surtex too!

These lovely ladies design beautiful fabric for you! Thanks for stopping by! We love having Beth, Delphine and Diane in the office for a day!

Delivery Date: June 16 at 6:00 a.m.
Weight: 7 pounds, 12 ounces
Advice: Enjoy and get lots of rest! I loved my Bjorn carrier and MacLaren strollers.
Other than that we didn't get all of the baby gear. We wanted a lot of books but I
see that you've got that covered! So happy for you and Joel! xo

Karen Junquet [above, left]
Henry Glass Fabrics

Delivery Date: June 10
Weight: 6 pounds, 11 ounces
Advice: Take advantage of all aunts, uncles, cousins, who will help and
give a hand with baby!

Lisa Loessel [above, right]
Henry Glass Fabrics

Delivery Date:  June 14th at 3:15 a.m.
Weight:  7 pounds, 11 ounces

Good luck to Heather and Joel! We look forward to meeting the new baby!

[Photography courtesy of Heather Mulder Peterson]

We're on day 2 of the Designers' Edition of Heather Mulder Peterson's Virtual Baby Shower! We've got to get the numbers up because her due date is tomorrow! Heather, we are thinking about you, Joel and baby! Good luck! For the rest of you, please put in your guesses here. You have until Friday to enter to win some fabric and her new book! Good luck to you!

Meanwhile, Heather's received some of her fabric, Seaside Cottage. Lovely! Take a peek here and on her blog.

So here we go with some other guesses from our designers. They've got some great advice too!

Barbara Jones

Delivery Date: June 20
Weight: 7 pounds, 2 ounces
Advice: Children will survive in spite of you not always
because of you!! [Advice to me from a wise old pediatrician!]

Mary Jane Carey

Delivery Date: June 22, 7:10 p.m.
Weight: 8 pounds, 12 ounces
Advice:  Get some sleep now because you will need
it after the baby is born!

Delivery Date: Since she made it past the full moon on the 4th, we're going to say she'll be just a little late.
We'll go with Flag Day on the 14th with an all-American boy!
Weight: 8 pounds,  2 ounces
Advice: About junior high when you start to question what happened to your cute,
adorable, little boy, my mom always told me, "they all grow up in spite of you"
and thankfully for the difficult times, and sadly for the terrific times, she was
correct! Enjoy and celebrate every single bit!

Dawn Heese

Delivery Date: June 14
Weight: 7 pounds,  14 ounces
Advice: Nap when the baby naps!

Delivery Date: June 19

Weight: 7 pounds,  12 ounces
Advice: Best product is the portable fabric chair with clamps to be
able to have your baby sit at any table with you.

Best advice: Try to take care of yourself and your child. It's so easy to forget yourself once
you become responsible for this precious bundle, and at some point when you're ready,
try to go back to having a regular date night with your husband. Very important to have
adult time for you both.

Jess Goldman

Delivery Date: June 7th
Weight: 7 pounds, 2 ounces
Advice: Treat every day like a gift because it is! Time flies and things
change quickly so enjoy here and now! Oh and if your little one ever
gets into the Vaseline and puts it all over his hair, use olive oil and
then mild liquid soap to get it out! [I've been there!]

Great advice, ladies! Come back soon! We've got a few more answers from the Henry Glass family!
