Oh What Fun! Party - Day 5: It's A Wrap!

We've had so much fun and we hope that you did too! Did you check out our Desire To Inspire Challenge project yesterday? Toye Mason, you did a fabulous job!

Here's the deal about our party in case you missed it. We decided to have our Oh What Fun Party! Note: This is not a Facebook contest. Answer here on the blog and answers are primarily from the blog in order for everyone to participate. We will ask you questions March 21, 22, 25, 26 and 27th. [Start here at the first post. Continue on by clicking "blog party" on the right sidebar under labels.] Each day we will pick a random winner from the pool of people who answer correctly. You will win something fabulous from our stash room in NYC. [*Add: Answer these by midnight March 31, 2013 and we will announce all of the winners on April 1, 2013.]

Today's challenge for you is a little different. Don't worry about being correct. You will still be entered. Take a stab at guessing the following. Some are easy [name the designer] but the other two might require a bit of reading. Good luck!

Question 1: Who is this designer?

Question 2: Who designed these fabrics?

Question 3: Who designed and made this block?

Question 4: Who's this designer?

Question 5: Who's Murphy's mom?

This year we have been working hard at bringing you some new and inspiring events. Please continue to read along. We love to hear your feedback too. Here are the final questions.

Desire To Inspire [March 2013 Edition]: Toye Mason

Welcome to the March 2013 edition of  our "Desire To Inspire" Challenge. We found our next challenger on our Facebook wall when we asked if anyone had a photo of a finished project to show us. We didn't know much about her when she had posted an image of her beautiful finished project but after the interview we were wowed by her. These first two challengers have made us so very glad that we came up with this monthly event. They have each delivered and we are thoroughly impressed. Thank you!

Let's get started!

March 2013 Challenger: Toye Mason

Challenger: Toye Mason

Fabric: Sweet Land of Liberty by color Principal [See full line here.]

We sent Toye some Sweet Land of Liberty by Color Principal and she made this fabulous quilt!

The back is equally impressive!

HG:  Where do you live?
TM:  Friendswood, TX

HG: Tell us about your family.
TM:  I am married 13 years to my dear husband, James, who loves to go to the quilt shops with me and all the ladies at the shops get such a kick out of him. He drools over long arms, embroidery and sewing machines more than anyone I have ever seen (he says this keeps his man card because they are like power tools, lol).  I have a daughter, Kaylyn (22), who does not sew but wants me to make her everything, and a son, Michael (12).  I also have a stepson and daughter-in-law, Brad and Heather, and two grandchildren, Hannah 4 and Dalton 2.

Toye and her beautiful family.

HG:  How long have you been quilting?
TM:  I just started about 9 months ago.  My first two quilts were rag quilts, which are so easy and fast to make.  I then made my first pieced quilt using the Best Wishes line.  I still have to actually quilt that one, its for my daughter.

HG:  What's your favorite technique?
TM:  I have recently discovered foundation paper piecing and love, love, love it!  I love the perfect straight seams and geometric shapes.

HG: Who taught you how to quilt?
TM:  I have taught myself to quilt by watching videos on the internet and blog tutorials.  I will come across a block or technique that interest me, and have to get right to trying it out.  I love to learn new things.

HG:  Do you belong to any guilds?
TM:  I don't at this time as I would one full time job and another part time job.  I hope to be able to join one soon.

HG: Anything else you would like to share with our readers?
TM:  I just want to say thanks for inviting me to join this challenge and your readers are welcome to visit me anytime at my blog, www.quiltingadventuresofaginger.blogspot.com
Thanks again.

HG: Thank you for your amazing designs and we loved meeting you!

Please pop over to Toye's blog and give her some love! Let us know what kind of questions you'd like us to ask the challengers. We know that we are going to ask future challengers what the most difficult part of the process was. We have another challenger coming up at the end of April. Come back soon!

Yikes!

There are some messages that say that they've been removed by the moderator. Not so or at least not that we are aware of. The poster's names are still there but not the message. Your post will still count and you don't need to re-post. If you do want your voice to be heard, please feel free to re-post. Just say that this is a re-post. We will then remove the original one. Thanks and so sorry for this.

Little Quilts and Big Hexies

The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop started on March 14, and it may be cold outside, but the flowers are blooming at Little Quilts for a warm welcome! Little Quilts is one of ten shops participating in this year's shop hop. The theme is "Quilting ... It's Our Passion!" and at Little Quilts we're passionate about "Hexies & Handwork." Some of the large flowers that greet everyone at the shop entrance were made from fabulous fabric and large hexagon shapes.

HG: What a great event. Have fun everyone! The hexie flowers are beautiful.

Have a great weekend and remember that there is still time to enter the giveaway for the monthly pdq* Club [pretty darn quick]. Read about the club here. Comment here for this month's free pattern and drawing.

Happy Hexies!

The Greater Atlanta Quilt Shop Hop is rapidly approaching. It's happening March 14-17, and Little Quilts thought that we'd like to see what they've been working on for the Shop Hop. This year's theme is "Quilting ... It's Our Passion" and the passion at Little Quilts is Hexies and Handwork. Each shop will have sets of 2 1/2" precut strips that customers will receive free with a $30 purchase or that they can purchase at each shop.

Little Quilts used a lot of the Folio fabrics in bright colors in their strip sets! They also used a Folio fabric for the background of the quilt they made using the strips from each shop to interpret their theme.

We just have to say GORGEOUS!

Leanne Anderson of The Whole Country Caboodle has been busy working with her latest line, God Gave Me You.

She stopped long enough to share a little bit about what she's sewn with this line. Adorable, don't you think? Here's what she had to say:

See what Nana Leanne from The Whole Country Caboodle has been up to. "Nana's Slumber Sacks" are the newest patterns being created from our recent line of fabric ... "God Gave Me You." These and several other projects are being created with this line. Included in the pattern will be instructions for personalized pillowcases, names banners and more. Keep watching for more fun patterns!

Thanks, Leanne. They're super cute.

Wow. We're Blushing.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! What a fabulous response to our newest program - Desire To Inspire Challenge. We are so happy that you've enjoyed the first installment. We also received a huge response to our call for challengers. Rest assured that if you don't hear from us right away it doesn't mean that you won't be chosen. We can't wait to see what the next challenger has in store for us. Follow us here on the blog or like us on Facebook to check out the inspiration that we will post for you.

This month is very exciting as well. One of our newest designers, Margot Languedoc of The Pattern Basket is here to share some inspiration about her Blushing fabric line. We recently chatted with her about this fabulous new line. Here's what she had to say:

Blushing is arriving in quilt shops!! I’ve been waiting for this collection to be available for such a long time and it’s finally here!!

When I sat down to design "Blushing" a big part of my inspiration came from apple blossoms that bloom in this part of the world every spring.  I just love these fragrant little flowers and after a very long cold winter it's a sure sign that warm weather has finally arrived.

But the other exciting part of the inspiration for this collection was the Languedoc cross.  I think it's such a pretty cross and I wanted it to be a part of Blushing.  When I married into the Languedoc family years ago my mother-in-law gave me a Languedoc cross pendant - it's something that will always be dear to me.  The cross has a long history that dates back to 1165.  I think it adds an 'Old World' charm to this new collection.

I designed three easy-to-piece patterns to accompany Blushing that are available free on the Henry Glass website. [HG: You can find the patterns here.

I have also designed nine new patterns with Blushing that will be available on my website very soon, and there are even more ideas on my design board.  Please come visit my blog to see what I have been up to.   http://thepatternbasket.blogspot.ca

Thank you, Margot!

Have a great weekend!
