Dear Jill

Designer Jill Finley of Jillily Studio is fighting a tough battle against breast cancer and she is undergoing surgery today. Jill received a special package in the mail this week. Liz and Beth Hawkins of Lizzie B Cre8ive headed this project to have Jill's friends in the quilting industry make blocks to be put together in a lovely quilt for Jill.

Jill received the quilt this week just before her surgery today. We wish Jill much love and luck. All the best to Jill and her family. Thank you to all who participated by sending a block in for this awesome quilt.

Have a great weekend.

Jill Finley of Jillily Studios has been one busy lady. Two of her current lines are being shown to your local quilt shops by our sales  representatives right now.

Park Drive is a beautiful line that features a beautiful toile print, some bold daisies and paisley prints and other coordinates.  Jams & Jellies Basics is her line of coordinating essentials. These go-to fabrics complement her collections with the us usual Jillily flair.

In addition to selling her own patterns and products, Jill also designed and produced the Henry Glass Fabrics booth for International Quilt Market in May. She did a lovely job by designing the booth with a spring floral theme.

Here are some photographs of her own booth. Simply gorgeous! Her theme was "sweets" because she just launched a new program for quilt shops. Look out for Jillily Studio Sweet Shops soon.

This month we are so excited and proud to see her featured in the current issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. Go and buy your copy today!

Thanks Jill for always inspiring us!

Have a great weekend!

Quilt Market Spring 2014: Quilt Something Beautiful

After months of planning, the Henry Glass crew was ready to set up our booth for the International Quilt Market in Pittsburgh recently. A lot of work goes into preparing the booth and then there's a lot of hard work on the days of setting it up.

Booth designer [and also fabric/quilt designer] Jill Finley of Jillily Studios did a wonderful job designing the booth and the tote bags for Henry Glass. The theme for our booth was "Quilt Something Beautiful."

Mary Ellen Von Holt of Little Quilts helped us out by setting up the sign for the Henry Glass booth and hanging the beautiful Folio quilt. This lovely quilt is made from fabric that showcases the Folio collection. These ladies have serious handy dandy tool talent.

Jill pre-made the flowers using prints from the Henry Glass market releases to dress up the entire booth.

This special corner hosted the designers as they presented their demos in the Henry Glass booth throughout the show.

Come back for more International Quilt Market news!

Pretty Darn Quick! March 2014 Edition

Jill Finley of Jillily Studios has sent in March edition pdq* [PRETTY DARN QUICK] CLUB]! Our blog was having some technical difficulty and this post was delayed. Our apologies. We certainly believe that the wait for this fresh and pretty pillow was worth the wait! "In The Pink" is a lovely spring design featuring a flower and Jill's beautiful collections. The design features quick applique and sewing techniques.

Before we get to the directions for "In The Pink" we wanted to share what Jill's been up to. She has been traveling around the country speaking and teaching to guilds everywhere. Recently she was featured on Fat Quarter Shop's YouTube channel. Stayed tuned for many more videos of Jill on the channel.

Jill used her latest collections, Twirl and Jams & Jellies in the "In The Pink" project and the Twirl quilt project. The colors and prints in these collections are very on trend. There are houndstooth prints, big dots and a gorgeous palette of colors including the new basic color, gray!

As always, you can download all past pdq* [PRETTY DARN QUICK] Club projects by clicking the link at the top right sidebar. Jill is selling kits for this pdq* [PRETTY DARN QUICK] Club project. Please visit her website for more information. You can download the "In The Pink" pattern here.

[Download this free pattern from the Henry Glass website.]
Enjoy!

pdq* Club [*PRETTY DARN QUICK] - January 2014 Edition

The pdq* Club [*PRETTY DARN QUICK] was so much fun last year that we asked Jill Finley of Jillily Studios to continue it this year. This year will be a little different though. Jill will still design some beautiful projects but she will also give us her best quilting tips. This month Jill gives us some of her great tips for piecing.

Before we get to the January Edition of the club though, we want to show off Jill's latest fabric collections. Twirl and Jams & Jellies are sweet collections with lots of ballerinas, ballerina flats and fresh basics. The collections should be hitting the quilt shop shelves sometime in February. Meanwhile, you can view the entire lines and also download the pretty quilt pattern on our website here.

Hello Quilters!   This year I think I will use my PDQ Club to share some tips with you that I have learned through trial and (many) errors.  Every once in a while I will give you a free pattern, and we will learn a lot through the year.  Join me every month for my PDQ Club, and we will all be Pretty Darn Quick quilters!!!

Some Tips for Piecing Perfection

We all would love to have perfectly pieced blocks with no cut off points, and matching seams, but it doesn’t always work out that way!  Since fabric is woven, it has “give” and can stretch and ease--  even when we don’t want it to.  So here are a few tips you can use to make your piecing more accurate.

1.   SCANT ¼” SEAM ALLOWANCE:   Quilters usually use a ¼” presser foot on their machines.  But even with this foot, and perfect ¼” seams, sometimes your block ends up a little small.  That is because it takes a little bit of fabric to “turn over” the seam and that can make a difference.  Make sure you use a SCANT ¼” seam allowance, following the 1/4” mark before your foot rather than the edge of the foot.  (This is especially true if you are sewing with tiny pieces!)

2.  PRESS AS YOU GO:  Don’t wait until the block is done to press.  Press after each seam, and give it a shot of steam to “block” it in place.  If you use the long, side edge of your iron to open up the newly sewn piece, it won’t distort like using the point of the iron.

3.  TRIM DOWN TO SIZE:  If  your block uses smaller sub units, like half–square-triangles, I like to make them a little larger, then trim them down to be exactly the right size, with the points exactly in the corners.

These are just a few little tips to give you more accuracy in your piecing.  But don’t worry too much about it—after all, if you try this and still have less-than-perfect blocks, remember the galloping horse theorem:

“If you can’t see it from a galloping horse, it doesn’t matter.”
--annonymous

Thanks Jill!  Great tips.
Tell us your favorite tip by January 31, 2014 at 4 p.m. and we will pick a random winner to win a bundle of fabric [our choice] to get you inspired.

Have a great weekend.
