Time to include my excitement about "Posies and Puppies"! The fabric line is in and will soon be in the stores. Here I am, on a very hot July 1 here in Minnesota, plotting and planning how to use the fabric. I know all of you will enjoy the line just as much. I will have a small quilt ready soon, and I will have a picture to share next time.

I am almost finished with a quilt I long hoped to make, using the chain-link block from the newspapers' Nancy Page column in the 1930s and the prairie points needed for the edge on a large queen size quilt. I did use my three lines of 1930s reproduction fabrics. Yes, I will have a picture to show all readers as soon as I get the knife edge finish stitched on the back of the quilt.

I hope all of you interested in our Henry Glass & Co. fabrics are also looking for quilt patterns for these fabrics. Nothing can replace the visual of a quilt made from the fabrics we all love.
I am currently on a summer break of sorts. My lecture schedule picks up again in August, when I begin my visits to groups throughout the upper Midwest. Meanwhile, I am designing patterns and piecing quilts as quickly as I can. For all of you, enjoy my "Posies and Puppies"

We are so excited about our new “Summertime” fabric collection for Henry Glass & Co. The idea behind the collection is that summer is a busy time for everyone, what with soccer, baseball, gymnastics, vacations, etc. I wanted to design a collection that included prints that were large enough to stand on their own with no appliqué and still make an interesting quilt. That way, if you are on the go all the time, you can still make a simple pieced quilt that is interesting to look at with a contemporary feel.

We included a little black and gray in our palette this time and love the result! We have lots of ideas and projects planned for this fun line. One of them is a month to month appliqué sampler.

If you start the quilt when the fabric arrives, you will finish it just in time for summer!

HG Designer Kim Diehl Blogs for us this Summer!

A big summer “hello” to everyone! This is the time of year when I usually want to be out in my garden more than I want to be inside sewing, but since receiving my Along the Fence fabrics, I’ve had to dig deep for enough will power to wander outside and water my poor flowers!

My college-age daughter, Katie, came home for a visit recently and she couldn’t wait to dive into the pile of prints when she saw them. Before I knew it, we were hip-deep in craft projects! In addition to re-covering some of her bulletin boards, we made her a simple but WAY cute earring hanger for her wall.
Here’s how we did this: First, we purchased a frame and removed the glass and all the parts and pieces. Next, we used the backing to cut a piece of foam core board to size, and then cut a piece of quilt batting and green print 5337-66 to be about 3-4” larger than the foam core board. We wrapped the layered green print and batting over the sides of the foam core board snugly, anchoring them in place to the back of the board using a hot glue gun along the edges. We knotted lengths of 1 1/2”-wide purple ribbon and positioned them over the front of the fabric, again anchoring them to the back of the board with hot glue. To keep the lengths of ribbon sturdy, we wiggled straight pins into the ribbon knots to hide them, angling the pin points between the layers of the foam core board. Last, we re-assembled the frame with the covered board and backing, and added earrings.

I hope this will inspire you to whip up some fun little projects (and maybe even some quilts) of your own!

Last week Little Quilts was in Paducah at the American Quilters Society Annual Show. There were beautiful quilts and lots of vendors. Shown here is the Little Quilts booth with the Tanyard Creek quilts on other right side. They sold many Tanyard Creek kits with the Star & Log Cabin Block, and the wall hanging kit with the pineapple block. They even had a pillow with wool pineapple.

I’ve been a very bad blogger lately. Only two posts in a month! I think I might have a good reason though -I have been busy playing with this- It’s a new fabric line that I designed with my Mom. We named it Sanibel.

We set out to design a line of fabrics that were fresh and cheerful, with a cottage chic feel. The colors include shades of aqua blue, apple green, tangerine, salmon pink, butter yellow and a chocolate brown – all colors you might find on a beautiful beach-side resort. The prints would be perfect for a lake cottage, shabby chic decor, spring and summer quilts, a cheerful bedroom and we think they will work for any age group. We have included lots of floral prints – some smaller more traditional prints, and some larger trendy prints. There is a polka dot print included, along with a couple plaids for binding. We have been busy making quilts out of our sample yardage (which I previewed a bit of in my last post). We have four quilts done so far and can’t wait to share them with you!First, Fresh Blooms from the book “On the Run”. Perfect for a spring table!

Next up is Crazy Daisy, which Mom made for her grandaughter Isabella. This is the free pattern, available at www.henryglassfabrics.com – See the projects page and just look for the image below to download.

There is more to come, but this is all I can show at the moment. I’m working on a couple new patterns for this line and my Christmas line. (I hope to have them completed before market.)
Sanibel will be in stores the end of May/beginning of June from Henry Glass Fabrics. We hope you like it!

The countdown to market is in full swing. Only three weeks to have the new patterns finished, samples of the new fabric finished and a booth designed. So far I have three new patterns designed, photos finished, and lots of editing to do, so I’ve got a ways to go yet! In addition to all that, we have had a couple rooms in our house torn apart, but that is another post. I’ll just say it’s a good thing I’m so busy or all the dust and mess would be driving me crazy!
Another distraction arrived recently to help take my mind off the mess – my sample yardage of my Christmas fabric line – “At Home for the Holidays”.

I’m really excited about this line and I just have to say that I’m in love with the reds! I have been asking Henry Glass if I could do a Christmas line for a while now, so I was thrilled to get the go-ahead last year. I’ve already done a post about this line here, if you want to read more.

The main thing you need to know is that the line works great for Christmas, but most of the prints aren’t specifically Christmas. That means you can make quilts from this line that can be hanging around your house all year long. So, yes, I am going to get lots of miles out of this line! It matches my dining room, living room and kitchen, so I can’t wait to do a little redecorating. But first I have to get some quilts made! So far, there is one top finished -

This is the free pattern that can be downloaded at www.henryglassfabrics.com, so check it out! I made this one to be out at Christmas, but all you need to do is change the applique and use a different border, and it’s no longer so Christmassy.

Good morning, dear Friends! I can almost feel the advent of spring in my neck of the woods!!! We have had warmer days. It was 6:30pm the other night when we were out driving, and it wasn’t even dark… spring is almost here. The anticipation is building up, especially when I look at my Sweet Picket Fence quilt!

This quilt is also featured in the current issue of The Quilter magazine, along with Twilight Trails. The fabrics used are from Henry Glass‘ Simply Sweet Collection.
The farbics really ARE sweet:

I opted for an allover feather and curly-Q background quilting for the quilt:
