Meet Judi Duncan - our Desire to Inspire Challenger for November.
I live in Bakersfield, Ca. and
it gets HOT here (LOL). The hubs and I are both retired - which leaves lots of
time for me to sew - I love quilting, home dec, making clothing and now bag
making.
We have two very large dogs (100 and 109 pounds) both adopted
from our local shelter. Lucky, our 3 year-old Doberman had diabetes and
recently developed cataracts as a result. He went blind, and we ended up
getting him the surgery to have the cataracts removed last month. He is
now on the mend and has 80% of his vision back and we are so grateful. It
is a very time consuming process, but it is a labor of love!
My oldest daughter and her son live with us, so life is
always exciting around here. Our favorite place to go is to the
beach! We love to take our grandson, when he is not in school. We play
in the water and look for sea shells and pretty rocks and beach glass.
And of course Grandma has to hit all the quilt shops (good thing the
family doesn't really mind).
I've been sewing on and off since I was 16 when my
grandmother gave me a brand new singer in a cabinet for Christmas. All
the granddaughters got the same gift for their sixteenth birthday. I love
applique...it lets me use my creative side. I have only been quilting a few
years and free motion quilting is my favorite technique, I could spend hours
and hours meandering on my machine. The best part of quilting is being
able to buy lots and lots of fabric...buying by the fat quarter lets you
purchase a lot of different fabrics without spending too much money. And
of course, novelty fabrics are my favorite!
Judi gets the fabric and is super happy! |
