It has been a fun week on the "A Flair For Fabric" Blog Hop! Thanks to all of the blog hoppers so far and to you for following along. You can see the details for the blog hop here and here.
Today we welcome, Janet Nesbitt, to the hop. She is posting on the Henry Glass blog for today.
Janet and the other Henry Glass designers, Dana Brooks, Linda Lum DeBono, Mary Ellen Von Holt and Leanne Anderson, had a lot of fun meeting everyone at the book signing at Quilt Market a few weeks ago. She is working on some new collections for Henry Glass. All of her beautiful collections can be seen on the Henry Glass website.
[L-R: Dana Brooks, Linda Lum DeBono, Mary Ellen Von Holt, Janet Nesbitt, Leanne Anderson]
Janet is the special guest today on the "A Flair For Fabric" book tour. Take it away Janet.
"A Flair For Fabric" - A new release!
This book has excellent tips on how to mix fabrics as well as 14 great, wide ranging projects, including:
“Posy Pot Heat Bag” by Annie Downs, perfect for heating up and putting on your tired shoulder or neck after a day of piecing!
AND
“Days Gone By” by Little Quilts which makes me remember my Grandma and the quilts she made for my dolls, although none were nearly as nice as this!
AND
my quilt, “Starburst Maple Delight”
As well as many more!
When I’m piecing, I often use a phrase of my mom’s “it’s good enough for who it’s for” since many of, what we might think of as our “piecing deficiencies”, will either press out, or quilt out, or simply just not be that noticeable after the quilt is completed. In other words, I don’t sweat the small stuff if my seams aren’t precisely matched and my points pointy! But color is a different matter and if there’s an offending piece of fabric that continues to jump out at me after I’ve “let it rest” on the floor over night, then out comes the seam ripper! But only you can decide what you can live with! You quilt for your enjoyment, so ENJOY!! And I know you’re absolutely going to enjoy this book!
Another thing you might enjoy as well, is this fabulous prize!! A bundle of Annie Down’s “About a Boy About a Girl” Fabric!!
All you have to do, is comment here and tell me:
“Do you like to piece with a select number of fabrics, or are you a scrap quilter, or do you swing both ways?“ and you will be automatically entered to win!! Deadline: Friday, November 28, 2014 at midnight.
And even better, there are lots more days to “hop around”, pick up additional tips, and enter to win even more fabulous prizes!! You won’t want to miss a day, so check out the schedule below, have fun and thanks for helping us support this worthy cause!
Thanks Janet!
This Monday, Linda Lum DeBono will be talking about "A Flair For Fabric" on the American Patchwork & Quilting Podcast . Tune in at 4 p.m. EST to listen!
Good luck!

I swing both ways. Love your projects, and the color combinations. Thanks for the giveaway.

The more I read about the book the more I am interested in trying different methods to pick my fabrics. I am thinking I need this book to mix things up and stretch my brain cells when it comes to color.

i swing both ways. sometimes i will start out with a line but i usually end up adding other fabrics
I'm starting to swing both ways. It's a learning process. I would love to win this book. Thanks for the chance. :)
I'm a swinger. But when I do scrap quilts I like to be an organized scrap quilter. Thanks for all the fun.
In quilting, I swing both ways. That is I like to work with collections because of the balance of colors and prints, but I love my scraps and the yard of this and yard of that that's in my stash. It's fun to put things together from my own stuff.
My favorite is scrap quilting but I do like a controlled quilt also. Thanks for the great giveaway.
That really depends on my project. Some quilt look better (imo) with a select number of fabrics, while others can go all scrappy and look awesome.
Precuts make it easy for perfect colour combinations but I also love the fun challenge of a beautiful scrap quilt.
laura84watt@gmail.com
I am primarily a scrap piecer, but love to use precuts in the same line. Thanks for the chance for some wonderful fabrics!
Well, I never thought I would say this but I swing both ways!! I am doing granny square quilts using up all my scraps and I am loving them....even the ugly fabric doesn't look as bad. Thanks for the chance.
I love everything scrappy! I just love rainbows of color! Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
I do both, but tend to be more a scrap quilter.
Starburst Maple Delight is a perfect name for your quilt - beautiful. I don't usually do 'scraps' even though I have lots to work with. :) Since color is not easy for me, I quite often default to collections to make it easier.
I swing both ways, although I really love using scraps, it keeps the results a surprise.
dawnm1993 at gmail dot com
I like to piece with a select number of fabrics, mostly those from collections. Thanks for a chance at the giveaway.
I don't think I have ever used a set amount of fabrics. I just pull and hope I have enough!
Thank you for the giveaway. I really love scrappy quilts, but I do tend to swing both ways.
I go both ways but I have a lot of scraps so lately I have been making a lot of scrap quilts.
I'm a scrapper - I love to marry fabric lines to make just the right look.
I most often use a bunch of different fabrics, It makes it easier to work from my stash and makes the quilts interesting to look at.
I do both. I love both...
Sometimes I like a limited palette in a quilt, but I have such a stash overflow that lately I have been doing a lot of scrappy quilts, trying to use up more fabric!
I tend to piece with certain fabrics in mind. I have not gotten into scrappy yet. What a fun looking book. Thanks for a chance
Janet, thanks for the preview of the beautiful quilts. I start out with a set pallete but immediately think that I need something else, and something else, and something else and before long, its scrappy again!!!
I like to select fabrics for my quilts and I use my scraps for smaller projects.
I'm definitely a scrap quilter! sarah@forrussia.org
I prefer to use a more controlled pallet, although I am accumulating a lot of scraps and am seeing some scrappy quilts in my future.
I swing both ways but tend to scrap more. Such fun!
I do better with using a fabric collection, pre-cuts.
I have a lot of scraps, it's hard to wrap my brain around using a lot of fabric choices.
Thank you for the giveaway.
Great quilts!
I swing both ways (here in the UK this expression means something completely different!!)
Both for me. It depends on what kind of quilt I am making. I just like making quilts!
I'm bad. I pick from my stash, which then am shy of one or two fabrics. I go shopping for those two fabrics and find something I want to use that does not go with the rest. Then the whole palette changes, and the search is on........ Well, you all know the story!
I love to work with a set of fabrics that I have picked to go together to make my quilts. If I make a scrap quilt it would have to be fabric colors that blend together. Thanks for the giveaway.
I swing back and forth between the two. Thanks for the chance.
I swing both ways .Precuts and bundles make it easy to balance fabrics. Thanks for the fun.
Well,
I generally purchase a few fabrics and then see what's in my stash which will work. Buying a whole line can be rather expensive.
I love Anni's designs, But I am what you call 'a swinger', when I see a fabric range I love I go for it, but I am a scrap lovin' gal too! All quilters know scraps multiply!
Mostly I love to sew scrap quilts with lots of colour, combining older fabrics with newer ones.

I'm trying to work with scraps, but I still have to control the colors I use. Thanks for the chance to win a copy of this great book.
I like to quilt with a limited selection of fabrics and haven't got into scrappy yet - bit it will happen. Thanks for the chance to win
Depends on what I am making, and who it's for...but do looooove both ways! Love this book! Definitely is on my Wish List!
HELLO,I swing both ways. After a while though I just need to do a very Scrappy Quilt it seems! Thanks for a lovely giveaway!
msstitcher1214@gmail.com
I love scrappy quilts! The more fabrics the better! Thank for this great book for such a great cause.
I pretty much pull anything that catches my eye and then try to see how it will work. I always have a huge mess to clean up but I love trying out all fabric! Thanks so much for the giveaway!
tdkcarpenoctem@hotmail.com
Sometimes I like to work with scraps and sometimes with a line of fabrics.
I work with whatever suits the pattern. I lean towards set amount of fabrics, but also love the scrappy look.
100% SCRAPPY!
I am definitely a scrap quilter...
I am a scrap quilter.....
I will go both ways; which ever seems to go with the pattern.
I do both, just love quilts
I really love scrap quilts and must confess that is what I usually make!
I'm still relatively new to quilting, but I like using up my scraps from other projects for sure! Thanks for the fun blog hop!
I make scrap quilts because friends are always giving me their scraps. I'd love to get back to using my fabric and choosing the colors but I can't waste all those scraps in those bins!
I've only recently worked up to having enough scraps to do something with, since I only started quilting a few years ago. I love to use brand new fabrics, as well as the loved scraps I have now. cdahlgren at live dot com
I'm pretty new to quilting so I don't have a lot of scraps yet!Give me time and I'll be making scrap quilts too.
I'm much more of a scrap quilter--I almost always have more fabrics in there than the pattern calls for.
I swing both ways.
I tend to swing both ways!! Thanks so much for the chance to win this fabulous book! :)

I find that I bounce between working exclusively with scraps for months at a time and then will work with planned yardage for a quilt or two. I do think that I prefer scrappy quilts best.
I am a swinger. I use what I have and also what's in the scrap bin.
I like bundles - saves me time fretting about which fabrics to pick :)
I usually work with one collection but sometimes throw in a renegade or two! carolann427@aol.com
I tend to swing both ways now. At one time I really wasn't so much a scrap quilter. Now, out of necessity, I am, and I've learned to love it.
I could really use this book to help me with my fabric choices. Used to buy kits and BOMs but have been using scraps, and not always ecstatic with my results! I mean, I like, but not love some of my more recent quilts. Thanks for this opportunity!
I like to change things up. I like scrap quilts, but I also enjoy an entire line that coordinates perfectly.
I started out just making quilts with a certain number of fabrics, but I've become more scrappy. Thanks for the giveaway.
kellam.susan@yahoo.com
I prefer to work with a line of fabrics. I have a healthy stash of scraps to make several scrappy quilts when I'm ready for the challenge of random.
I swing both ways but most of my quilts are scrappy.
What I've quilted so far (and that's not a whole lot), I've been a scrappy quilter, but I recently signed up for a BOM and that uses a selected number of fabrics. I chose to select my own rather than a bundle. I am loving it so far!
For small projects I tend to limit my fabric choices but for bigger projects I love scrap quilts with at least one common denominator to help tie the whole design together.
I'm a swinger and didn't even know it!!! LOL It depends on the quilt, because I have done my share of both scrappy and limited palette quilts!! Looks like a lovely book - thank you for the opportunity to win it!!
I love to swing both ways...depends on my mood and the project I have in mind...thanks for all you do
I like to swing both ways depending on my mood and the project I have in mind...thanks for all you do
I like to swing both ways depending on the project I'm doing...thanks for all the hard work you do
As a new quilter I tend to use collections but I love scrappy too....I guess I swing both ways!
I love to both ways. I like collections because I know they will match but sometimes having a collection makes me think harder about what to make
I love scraps. I thrive in chaos, so when I randomly pull from my scrap drawer, and randomly stitch to something else. I feel such satisfaction. Then, to balance the chaos, I will put a monochromatic border. I have bought fabric in themes for quilts, but every thing else was random. It I find a pattern I like, go and buy fabric to fit perfectly in my head...I'd lose interest
I am new to quilting, but love to use scraps so that nothing goes wasted.
I am more of a scrap quilter because I have a very limited amount of fabric.
I swing both ways! Thanks for the chance to win!
I swing both ways. Thank you!
I swing both ways. Thank you!
I enjoy using scraps (but the color combos need to be pleasing to my eye) and lines of fabric. Thanks...enjoying the "hop".

I can definitely swing both ways, but really love the scrappy look. Thanks for the giveaway!
I go both ways since I'm a fairly new quilter. Going to try my hand at art quilts too.

I am just beginning to quilt and am inspired by seeing quilts done in both ways!
I definitely like to quilt with a select number of fabrics. Eventually, I'll be doing some scrap quilts.
I feel more comfortable with a chosen set of fabrics but scrappy does help reduce the stash.

While I occasionally make scrap quilts, mostly I put together a specfic group of fabrics for each specific quilt. -- soparkaveataoldotcom
I swing both ways! Depends on the project.
I love to make scrappy quilts but the occasional 2 or 3 fabric quilt is nice for a quicky.
I go both ways, but definitely try to use my scraps.
Thanks for the giveaway

I swing both ways but really love using scraps . Thanks for the chance to win .
Having only just discovered patchwork I don't have many scraps or much in my stash...but I am saving the left overs as I go along...so, a scrappy quilt here I come! Thanks. Wendy
I would have to say I swing both ways. It all depends on the project.
Preferably I make quilts with a select number of fabric choices. I use the scraps in another project.
Scrappy is always better I think. I use many fabrics from many designers in my projects. :) Diana

Looks like a great book with lovely projects! I swing both ways, more fabric, the better it is, hehe.
Thank you for a super giveaway and a chance to win.
usairdoll(at)gmail(dot)com
I definitely swing both ways, at least when it comes to fabric!
I like to do both depending on the project. But I think I have been more successful with using just a few fabrics -- my one major scrap project I didn't really like how it turned out.
Scrap quilter!
I tend to swoing both ways!
I love scrappy quilts and I think the most fun is choosing and putting together fabrics!
I am nervous to make scrappy combinations, but I am planning to venture in that direction with my next project!
Jackiethompson323(at)gmail.com
Like others, I swing both ways but these days, I am really focusing on "shopping my stash" so am working on scrappy projects -- I've been discovering all sorts of goodies in my stash that I'd forgotten were in there! Thanks for this opportunity to win.

I like working both ways. It is nice to have a line of fabric to work with as you know that all the fabric goes together, but somethimes it is fun to put together your own fabric combinations.
Because of the cost of quilting fabrics now, I try to use from my stash. I "audition" fabrics for a project and only buy when I need that perfect fabric to complete my project.
I don't really make very scrappy quilts although I love seeing all the wonderful scrappy quilts around blogland. Thanks for the lovely giveaway.
Definitely scrappy quilter - must be why scraps seem to multiply at my house! I can't remember when I bought coordinating fabrics, let alone an actual designer set! I love your pattern - it was one that stood out to me each time someone showed it. If I don't win the book, I'll have to go buy it. =) Thanks for the chance to win the fabric bundle. AND for not having embedded comment box! I can never comment on the blogs that have one, and most of the ones in this hop do.
I like to piece within a selection so I'm probably a bit scrappy but not too much. Get too scrappy and my eyes seem to have a hard time finding a place to rest.
I am starting to swing both ways! The new fabrics encourage people to be creative.
I have been particular about the fabric I use in quilts but I would like to become comfortable just using scraps! I need to start practicing do that and see how it goes!
I would like to learn to use more of my scraps to make my quilts. Up to this point I've been particular about the fabric I use in my quilts.
I like both types of projects, but scrappy quilts are my very favorite.
I am pretty new to quilting. I mostly stick with a set number of fabrics. However, that could be due to the fact that I don't really have a stash of fabric or scraps yet.
I am a scrap quilter.
I usually like to use a select number of fabrics but have been trying to get into more scrappiness.
I swing both ways. Right now I am working on a few doll quilts and one is scrappy and the other is just a few different colors!
I usually blend fabric lines, to make it my own feel.

I mostly like a select number of fabrics...all picked out and matching.
I tend towards scrappy but controlled scrappy. (Except when I do something from all the scraps that are on the floor around my sewing chair, when anything goes!)
I have to quilt with a certain selection, and most times the fabric is all from the same line. As much as I admire many scrappy quilts, the perfectionist in me prevents me from being comfortable enough to tackle one.
I'm all over the place, I like to piece, but when the scraps start taking over I make a few scrappy quilts, it's a never ending cycle :)
I like to piece within a selection so I'm probably a bit scrappy but not too much. Get too scrappy and my eyes seem to have a hard time finding a place to rest.
i swing both ways)
I have primarily been a scrappy quilter as I didn't think I had the skill yet to move to a controlled fabric line. I have a new sewing machine and I am now ready for more controlled fabric selections. I think.
I don't really like scrappy quilts, so the only precuts I buy are occasional fat quarter bundles.
cork@pa.rr.com
Love a good scrappy quilt, but have been known to use a whole line of a fabric.
I swing both ways. I love your advice "don't sweat the small stuff"! We are our own worst critics - enjoy the time you have to quilt, there's always someone who will think it's the best quilt ever. Love your color combination on the quilt. Thanks for the giveaway.
I swing both ways! Thanks!
Please click on the delaineelliott above for my email link.
I love scrappy quilts but with a little planning.
I'm a swinger... ok that sounded bad! But I do I mix match of everything. I'll have to say I'm a planned scrappy piecer though!
SHARED THIS GREAT GIVEWAY! http://www.pinterest.com/pin/187110559493642062/
msstitcher1214@gmail.com
I love Annie's fabric lines!! I usually make quilts from one fabric line and add fabric that will coordinate well.
I prefer a set number of fabrics, I'm don't have enough scraps yet to pull them out for a whole quilt!
~Brandy
Mostly, I am a scrap quilter but I supposed it depends on the pattern.
I am thinking I am a swinger. I love the look of both scrap quilts, and fabric line quilts. JH
I do tend to swing both wasy, although I do like scrappy quilts!
I still feel new to quilting and have stuck mostly to collections from a line. I hope to do more scrappy as my collection continues to grow!
I do both ways but love scrappy the most!
I do both ways.. Depends on what kind of project and if I have enough fabrics that will go together..
I like to scrap quilt.
Thanks,

Scrap quilting. I am working on one now.

I swing both ways. Thanks for the generous giveaway.
I would say I swing both ways but my heart is with scrap quilting. I love the variety of fabrics I use when scrap quilting.

Hi, the flair for fabric book...giving back, what a lovely and generous thing to do, the true nature of quilting shines through. Thanks for the chance to win. I hope everyone involved has a very Merry Xmas!!

I swing both ways, but most often I do scrap quilts. Thanks for the giveaway!
I usually use just fabric from one collection. However I am starting to dip my toes into the scrappy quilting style but for some reason it scares me. Out of my comfort zone I guess! sandybailey55@hotmail.com

I'm definitely a scrap quilter. I've just changed the quilt on my bed from a scrappy 30s quilt to a scrappy Jacob's Ladder in CW repros.
I use to be a limited number of fabrics quilter. I always likes scrappy, and since I started using precuts, I love doing scrappy. First they were precuts, but now they are from my stash. So, I have to say, I am a swinger!
My quilts swing both ways. I love scrappy, and sometimes it's fun to use just a few coordinates.
I usually prefer to have things organized, and even if I go wild, there is usually a color coordination or a theme to my projects.
I like to mix things up. I also like to use precuts so I'm both. Thanks
Dive through my stash for applique but then limit the palette for the geometric blocks
I like doing both! I love that advice not to sweat the small stuff and that the person probably won't notice anyway :) too true!!
I do both but mostly have done kits or fabric lines and am building on my scraps. I make a lot of baby quilts for charity (NICU) and love getting "free" quality fabric for this. Thanks for the chance with this contest.
I do both. Building up scraps so I can do more of that. Thanks for opportunity to win this darling fabric. I make charity (NICU) baby quilts so love when I can get free quality fabric.
I'm very flexible so flip flop from using all one line to going as scrappy as can be! Long as it's fabric ... I will work with it ;-)
I actually prefer scrap quilts.
I am definitely a scrap quilter. I have inherited my Grandmother's fabric, my Mom's fabric - and scraps just seem to find a home at my house. (pretty sure they multiply in their boxes). Thanks for the blog hop!
I do both - I love scraps, but often I'll work with all or part of a collection instead.
I like to quilts both ways. Thanks for opportunity to win
I've done both methods so I guess I swing both ways :) But I need order so slect pieces is more my thing.. the About Boy/Girl fabric are simply adorable!!
I like to mix colors in an extreme scrappy way.
The more fabrics in a quilt, the better -- I'm a devoted scrap quilter! Thanks for the opportunity to add to my stash.
I can be either a controlled quilter or an all over the place scrapper! Sometimes I have to make a controlled quilt to make more scraps for my scrappies! I haven't used a single line since Thimbleberries Club quilts many years ago-still have a few to finish then the rest of the fabric will go into the scrappies!
I love scrap quilts but find them just as hard, if not harder, to do as I still want to exercise control over the scraps!!
8628I love scrap quilts but find them just as hard, if not harder, to do as I still want to exercise control over the scraps!!
I love both quilts with a certain set of fabrics and scrap quilts. But I love scrappy more.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I am not really into scrap quilts, so I audition fabrics then start cutting!!
cork@pa.rr.com
I love scrap quilting. Putting all those 'orphan' fabrics together makes me smile !
I swing both ways but I do tip a bit more towards the scrappy side :)
