Day 8: Buggy Barn, Kim Diehl and Margot Languedoc!

Thank you for being part of our awesome Summer Party and for the designers for sharing their summer thoughts with us! Remember to answer EACH question in order to enter each giveaway by posting on each post. There are some individual designer giveaways too! Good luck!

Yesterday designer Dawn Heese was one of our guests on the post and her beautiful photographs of her new projects were lost. She was kind enough to forward them again and all we can say is wow.

Studio notes from Dawn:
It has been in the triple digits here all summer. It has been too hot and dry to do much of anything "summery" outside so I have been inside stitching. Here is a preview of what I have been working on from my fabric. These patterns will be available very soon and there is more on the way. Hope that you all are having a cool summer! Best wishes!

Thank you for sharing these with us, Dawn. May we wish her more hot and dry days so that she can stitch more!

Today we have some more fabulousness! The Buggy Barn ladies, Pam Soliday and Janet Nesbitt, Kim Diehl and Margot Languedoc are here! Enjoy!

Buggy Barn [Janet Nesbitt and Pam Soliday]

First up, the Buggy Barn ladies, Pam Soliday and Janet Nesbitt, are here to share their summer favorites.

Best vacation spot:
One of our favorite winter vacation spots is Cancun, Mexico. I just love that blue water! This is our group [see top photo] attempting to jump for joy that we are out of the snow ... it's pitiful, we know, but hilarious! In the summertime, we stay pretty close to home. We are blessed in the Northwest with great lakes and rivers for summer time fun! We are close to both the Spokane and Columbia Rivers which are great for boating but also enjoy the local lakes, of which there are many! Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is just an hour away and it's a great spot for summertime fun! The city beach is a hub of activity in the summer and hosts events like Iron Man and the Coeur d'Alene Triathlon because it's also a great place for biking. We love the Route of the Hiawatha, a bike trail that follows an old railroad line, through tunnels, across tressells, and the best part is, it's all downhill! You can, of course, choose to ride back up, but I prefer to load my bike on the bus back to the parking lot! Coeur d'Alene also offers a golf course with a floating green. If you are lucky (skilled) enough to hit the green, you take the boat out to the green to putt.

Favorite summer drink:
My favorite drink, while in Mexica, would have to be a margarita! But here's a great summer slushy that everyone will love!

(1) 6 ounce package of cherry jello
3/4 cups sugar
2 cups boiling water
(1) 46 ounce can pineapple juice
6 cups cold water
2 liters ginger ale, chilled

In a 4 quart freezer container, dissolve jello and sugar in boiling water. Stir in the pineapple juice and water. Cover and freeze overnight. Remove from freezer 2 hours before serving. Place in a punch bowl and stir in ginger ale before serving. You can also make individual servings. Just spoon in the frozen portion and add enough ginger ale to make slushy!

Favorite ice cream flavor:
Chocolate but they're also partial to Starbucks Java Chip Ice Cream!

Studio notes:
While you are enjoying the summer sun, we hope that you include our 16th Annual Buggy Barn Outdoor Quilt Show to the fun! Join us August 25th and 26th from 10-4 daily with classes beginning the 21st. More info:

16th Annual Quilt Show 2012Classes start Tuesday August 21st ending Friday August 24th
with the outdoor show August 25 & 26 from 10am - 4pm

The Buggy Barn is well known for our Annual Outdoor Quilt Show. We have so much fun and so many wonderful quilts displayed at this popular event, that we've decided to post a gallery of past shows so you can see what everyone is getting so excited about. To check out our class schedule click here.

Next up, Kim Diehl talks summer. Let's see what she has to say about summer!

Best vacation spot:
My favorite vacation spot is Lincoln City on the Oregon coast. my husband and I spend a week there every summer -- we walk on the beach, sit and stare at the waves, and basically work real hard at being total slackers.

My favorite summer drink:
It's actually not a drink at all, but it's served in a martini glass ... does that count? You fill your glass with fresh watermelon balls, add a squeeze of lime, and then drizzle everything with a little balsamic vinegar. Totally yummy!

My all-time favorite ice cream flavor EVER:
Chocolate mocha cheesecake. So good, it's worth the triple exercise routine to make up for it the next day!

Studio news:
My website is www.kimdiehl.com and the "Good Clean Fun" page includes quilting tips, recipes, and free patterns.

I want to show you this block that I've been working on for a new teaching project, and it uses only fabrics from my different lines.I like designing collections that can be easily mingled together for more versatility.

On a side note, Murphy, my dog, loves to smell flowers. [HG: We think that Murphy is so adorable!]

Margot Languedoc of The Pattern Basket is our last designer on the Summer Party tour.

Best vacation spot:
We love to visit Maine every summer so I would have to say Boothbay Harbor, Maine. It has it all -- the sea, fresh lobster, beautiful inns, quiet afternoons enjoying the sea breeze, and amazing beaches. If you love to window shop or splurge on something special, Boothbay Harbor has lots of wonderful shops that feature many talented local artists. For me, it's the perfect vacation.

My favorite summer drink:
Good old fashioned lemonade on ice. So easy to make and I think that it just tastes like summer should taste.
My favorite ice cream flavor:
I live in a country town with one general store that carries everything you can think of. This little shop has an ice cream called Tiger Tiger - it's an orange/black liquorice combination that I just love. I'm sure that you could buy this ice cream in a lot of other places, but there's something about heading down to the corner store on a hot afternoon that makes this ice cream extra good.

Studio news:
I'm working on some new things that can't be revealed yet but I am hosting a giveaway for a fat eighth bundle of Butterfields and my new pattern "By The Sea."

Thanks to you our readers and to all of our wonderful designers! It has been a blast!

When I think of summer I think of the relaxed pace after a busy school year. I enjoyed the time to slow down, eat lots of summer produce and spend time catching up with friends. I even enjoy an occasional summer storm. Thanks for hosting this great little hop. I have enjoyed reading all the blogs and learning some new things.
Regards from Western Canada,
Anna

Colors that make me think summer are yellow, bright pink, and orange....the colors of the beautiful sunsets we get to see. Just the other night the descending sun looked like a huge scoop of rainbow sherbet!

Aqua, and orange, although not together. These are the colours of a lot of my summery clothes. Also lilac colours as we have a lot of lavender in our garden in the summer.
