Henry Glass Designers' Progressive Dinner Party - Day 8 Kim Diehl

Our final day of the Holiday Progressive Dinner Party is hosted by Kim Diehl. Kim's seasonal collection is called "Farmstead Harvest" which will ship in April 2018.

Farmstead Harvest Collection

Favorite Christmas Memory

While growing up, my parents made Christmas a really magical time of year. One of my favorite memories as a little kid was driving home from grandma’s house on Christmas Eve, when my dad suddenly exclaimed, “Look! I just saw Santa’s sleigh and Rudolph fly behind those clouds!!” I spent the whole rest of the drive with my nose pressed against the glass, fogging up the car window while I looked for Santa.

Now that I’m all grown up and a nana with two toddler grandies, I go all out to make things just as special for them; this means lots of quilts, evergreens, sparkling lights, and yummy treats like my Caramel Apple Cheesecake. I hope you enjoy the recipe!
And because I’m sure you’re all on Santa’s “good” list, here’s an extra holiday gift from me to you – free downloadable directions for this fun little Farmstead Game Board quilt, created with my upcoming Farmstead Harvest collection.

Download link is below

To end this dessert course on a REALLY sweet note, please share your favorite holiday treat with me between now and Tuesday, December 12th. (See Giveaway Box below) I’ll randomly choose two winners and Santa will deliver a signed copy of my Simple Harvest and Simple Christmas Tidings books to each of you. Ho, ho, ho!!!

We love Christmas cookies and our favorite variety is called Cappuccino Flats. They come from the book BETTER HOMES AND GARDENS COOKIES FOR CHRISTMAS published in the mid-80s. It's still my favorite cookie book ever. I believe you can still find copies for sale online. I've seen that the recipe is posted online at Taste of Home as well.

My favorite holiday treat is the peanut butter fudge my dad makes for me. To make it easy on him, ;) I present him with 10 pounds of sugar and the largest jar of peanut butter I can find and return containers for a refill. Thank you, Kim, for the recipe and pattern and to Henry Glass for the opportunity.

I am so glad that I found my way to the Henry Glass & Co. blog from Facebook! I'll be spending some time going through all 8 days admiring the fabrics and taking note of the recipes. It was Kim Diehl's fabric that first caught my eye but the photo of her cheesecake was irresistible. Thanks for all the free pdf patterns too!

Best Christmas dessert was my Mom's "Frozen Pineapple" Dessert...jelly roll, crushed pineapple with whipped cream decorated with maraschino cherries. It was never meant to be frozen but that was how it was first served and we decided that we liked it best that way.

The one treat that I have made forever is a big batch of Spritz cookies using my vintage Betty Crocker recipe book. My new holiday favorite that I made for Thanksgiving and will make again for Christmas is White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake. It's written for an Instant Pot, but I'm sure it can be adapted for the oven. https://tidbits-marci.com/pressure-cooker-white-chocolate-raspberry-cheesecake/print/1597/
It's delish!!

My favorite holiday treat is a dessert from the old Mike Roy cookbook--does anyone remember him? He was one of the original "celebrity chefs" and my mom listened to him on the radio. We called it "Christmas Salad" and she made it only once a year so it would be special. It involves sliced oranges, pineapple, canned cherries, and whipped cream, with lemon juice to cut the sweetness. It sounds sketchy but it is light and fruity and one of my favorite holiday treats. If my description hasn't put you off, feel free to email me and I'll send you a copy of the recipe!
