pdq* Club - February

Welcome to February's installment of the pdq* Club with Jill Finley of Jillily Studio. Last month's project was so fun and fabulous. Did you get a chance to make an apron? If not, then check out the January's post. You can find a link to all of the pdq* Club information along the side bar. We have labeled each of the posts "pdq Club" and "Jill Finley." Please do share your finished projects! Either
e-mail us your photographs to karen [at] jaftex [dot] com or show them off on our Facebook page. We hope to see some finished projects! You can download a .pdf with photographs and instructions here.

Jill is taking a few minutes out of her busy schedule to provide us with some insight into her inspiration for this project:

This month's PDQ project is so fun and easy!  I needed a place to keep my projects that I am currently working on in my sewing room.  The idea here is to put away one project before starting on another one.  That way, theoretically, I will have more surface area to work on!  So I wanted just a cute container to throw things in by my sewing area.  I remembered these hat boxes that I had stored away. They are nice and large and would be really cute stacked up by my machine.  They were dirty and scratched up, and the wrong color.  So I decided to cover them in fabric from my "Beyond the Gate" line.  They turned out darling!  And perfect for storing things away quickly that I need to access easily.

Decoupage is an easy process and doesn't take much time, except for waiting for it to dry.  I also did a birdhouse in fabrics from my "Beyond the Gate" collection.  The sky is the limit with this project! I hope you enjoy it, and let me know if you have ever decoupaged with fabric!

Thank you Jill for a very pretty way to organize the sewing area! We have last month's winner for a fabric bundle of our choice. Please send your information to karen [at] jaftex [dot] com. Congratulations!

Thanks for such a sweet pattern! This year my word is Simplify!

Leave Jill some love here up until midnight March 19, 2013 and we will select another winner for a random bundle of fabric!

Be inspired!

I love doing boxes with fabrics and use decoupage, as well. It is a nice since you can use any types of fabrics and create looks to fit the room you are putting them in. I do mine in a primitive style and after I do them, I sand them a bit, add some aging stain and I have an instant antique.

I love fabric covered hat boxes and was going to say no I had never made any. Then I remembered I took a class years ago on how to make fabric covered hat boxes. Yes, I have made them and still have the one I made in the class. Yours turned out beautiful with your fabric.

I saved some boxes with lids last Christmas. I would like to cover them with Christmas fabric to give gifts in next year. I didn't know if I should glue them down or decoupage. So now I know. 3bakergirlsgo@gmail.com

I might just have to give this a try. May have to go to Goodwill to find some boxes I don't like though. All the ones I have on hand are too pretty to cover. I do have a light switch cover or two though that this idea might work on as well. Hmmm...

I've subscribed to you through email and the new quilt that you are working on with your upcoming fabric is just wonderful - I love the reds! I also thought the little sundress was just adorable! I can't wait to see more of your designs, patterns and fabric!!!

As a name for the quilt how about Blossum Time! And I love it when a pattern has more than one size. I am more likely to buy it.

Jill, your fabrics are always so beautiful. I don't have any hat boxes, but I bet I can adapt this idea to some shoe boxes and still get to add a splash of color to my 'studio.'

Love those hat boxes! I used to pick them up at garage sales and recover them with wallpaper samples. Used them for storage around the house. WHen the decor changes, they were easy to redo or just get rid of if they were ready to fall apart.

Love how bright and cheery your fabrics are!
